Park Construction Closes for Season
Site Work Scheduled for Completion in Spring

Cortland, NY – Construction of the $4 million Finger Lakes East Business Park is nearing completion, with road paving, signal installation, and electric, gas, and fiber construction at the 127-acre site scheduled for next spring.

Contractors began Route 13 highway improvements and site development last May, with plans to complete construction by the end of the year. Work has now been halted for the winter with the contracted work about 90 percent complete. Work outside the contracts – trench work for underground utilities – is now being scheduled.

“There are lots of partners in this project, some with large bureaucracies that are not, and probably cannot, be responsive to the deadlines we’ve set,” said Cortland County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Garry VanGorder. “We’ve done our best to stay flexible.”

VanGorder said the park’s road sub-base has been constructed, and that in retrospect allowing it to sit over the winter before paving will assure a better finished product. “That’s the silver lining,” he said. “Overall, we’re very pleased with the work that’s been done so far and we’re looking forward to finishing things up as soon as we can next spring.”
